Graph Starz
Privacy
Your own pictures never leave your device. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no cookies from this site. Below is every other site your browser talks to while you use Graph Starz, and what reaches me, which is only what you choose to send.

Your own pictures
When you add pictures, from your device or from Google Drive, a picture model running in your browser reads each one and tags it. Nothing about them is uploaded: not to me, not to anyone. They're kept in this browser's own storage for graphstarz.com, so they're still there next time.
To remove them, delete a set (a group of your pictures) in the Sources panel, or clear this site's data in your browser's settings.
Google Drive
If you use From Google Drive, Google asks you to let Graph Starz see only the files you pick in Google's own picker, nothing else in your Drive. Each picture you pick is downloaded from Google straight to your browser and read there, like a picture from your device.
The access Google gives lasts an hour at most and is kept only in the open page. It's never stored, and it's never sent to me or anyone else. I don't keep a copy of your files or anything about your Google account. Google's sign-in and picker load only when you point at, tab to or press that button, and Google's privacy policy covers them. You can take the access back any time on your Google Account's third-party connections page.
Graph Starz's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Other sites your browser talks to
Like any web page, each of these sees your device's internet address and browser when it's asked for something. None is told about your own pictures.
- GitHub Pages hosts the site itself. GitHub's privacy statement
- Google Fonts sends the two typefaces, on every page. Google Fonts and privacy
- The museums and libraries that hold the collections send a sharper copy of a picture from a collection you've switched on whenever the map shows it large enough to need one, as when you open it, zoom in on it or search for it: the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art and Wikimedia Commons. They aren't told which page asked.
- Hugging Face sends the picture model (about 64 MB) the first time you add your own pictures, and your browser keeps it after that. Only the model is downloaded; nothing goes back.
What reaches me
- Feedback goes to my inbox through Web3Forms: what you write, your email if you give it, and, unless you untick it, a few lines about what you were looking at (the view, your search, the tag you clicked, the open picture unless it's one of yours, which collections are on, how many of your own sets are on, the areas setting, the window size and the site's version). Your own pictures and sets are never named, though your search goes as you typed it.
- The launch list on the welcome screen sends your email to Kit, which emails you once to confirm. I'll write when Graph Starz launches and after that only with real news, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
That's all of it, and I don't sell or share any of it.
What's kept on your device
A few settings, so the map opens the way you left it: which view, light or dark, where you left the Areas slider, whether you've closed the welcome, whether you've already watched the map arrange itself, and a feedback message you haven't sent yet, with the email you typed in it. Your own sets and the picture model are kept there too. All of it stays in this browser, and clearing this site's data removes it.
